Lyde Green Primary and Secondary School

Lyde Green will provide a new primary and secondary school, for over 1300 students, serving the growing community on the outskirts of Bristol

Our Role: Passivhaus Consultants RIBA Stages 2-7 employed by client and main contractor

Delta Q were appointed at the early stages of the design, helping to secure a simple building form and ensuring the design functioned for both winter and summer comfort.

Our involvement has included designPH and PHPP modelling and advice on building form, orientation, glazing, U values, construction, structure, thermal bridging, airtightness, over-heating, heating, ventilation and hot water system designs.  We were instrumental in persuading the team to adopt cross laminated timber timber (CLT) construction due to speed of construction and its airtightness and thermal properties.  The design incorporates centralized cascade heat recovery ventilation, distributed electric domestic hot water and heat pumps for heating and kitchen hot water.

Delta Q have been working very closely with BAM’s site team, Passivhaus Champion and sub-contractors to ensure the required quality is achieved on site and that suitable evidence is collected for Passivhaus Certification.

BAM have submitted the project for the new UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard Pilot and Delta Q are carrying out upfront and whole life carbon calculations for the school.
