Wednesfield Technology Primary School

Wednesfield Technology Primary School is a newly Certified Passivhaus technology school which will provide a state-of-the-art education facility for the city of Wolverhampton.

Our Role: Passivhaus Consultants RIBA Stages 3-7 appointed by main contractor

Delta Q worked with the Contractor to develop a cost-effective construction plan, resulting in a two-story structure with a simple form, flat roof, and external ventilation plant.

The design features timber frame construction with an insulated ground floor slab. Delta Q collaborated closely with timber frame contractor Innovaré to finalise design details for airtightness and thermal bridging. A standout feature of the design is its approach to ventilation and summer comfort. It utilises mechanical night ventilation, window opening, and minimal external shading. Delta Q worked with thermal modellers to refine the control strategy and calculate additional power requirements, ensuring Passivhaus Certifier approval.

Delta Q also established a training and benchmarking system with the main contractor’s Passivhaus Champion to ensure confidence in obtaining Passivhaus certification. Additionally, we developed a clear and accessible building guide to ensure ease of use for the school’s operators. Since the school’s occupancy, we have been actively involved in the handover process, providing ongoing support to ensure the operators fully understand the design intent, key operational procedures, and maintenance requirements. This ensures that the building operates efficiently and continues to meet Passivhaus performance standards long after the project’s completion.

The building was certified to Passivhaus Classic Standard in 2025.
